Dick Advocaat, Russia coach
I think that Portugal are the favourites, thanks to their recent results, but I think that on a good day Russia can beat them. Aside from all that, though, we know that nowadays every national team deserves a lot of respect. Of course it’s not going to be easy, but I can’t let myself feel either pleased or unhappy with this draw. I’ve not got any special feelings about it, either good or bad. Everything’s possible.
Elkhan Mammadov, Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Football Association
It’s an interesting group. With the exception of Luxembourg, these are all opponents that we’ve played before in EURO or World Cup qualifiers. What is more, we recently played a friendly against Luxembourg. So, they’re all teams we know well and we know they'll be tough, and coach Berti Vogts is of the same opinion. I just hope that we can make our fans happy by showing our quality in these qualifiers.
Paul Phillip, President of the Luxembourg FA
It’s always hard for us, whatever group we’re in. But the draw was very interesting, and finishing anywhere lower than fourth would be a disappointment. Nearly ten per cent of our country’s population are Portuguese, so we’re happy to be in the same group. Russia are a footballing superpower, who we’ve already played a few times before, and we’ve met Northern Ireland before too. Azerbaijan are the biggest obstacle in the way of us achieving our objective.
